Continuing Student Housing

Housing Application opens on Jan. 30

• Choose one Residential Learning Community (RLC). Keep in mind, potential roommates must have the same RLC. Explore 2024-25 RLC options.
• Have your initial payment ready (automatically bypassed by students with greatest financial need)
• There will be an opportunity in the application to note if you will be connecting with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) for any necessary accommodations.
• Add a phone number and opt in for text messages.
• Housing expects that all residents will create an inclusive room for students regardless of identity. Let us know if you prefer to live a room that is Queer-affirming, which is an environment where students who identify as Queer are fully welcomed in a supportive community.  If you identify as Queer and want further support, the Pride Center can be reached  here.

• All students in required and non-required groups who have signed up for housing can add up to five roommates (six students total in a roommate group).
• Roommate groups are optional. You can sign up as an individual, then select into an apartment with other groups or individuals during room selection.
• Request roommates in the housing application. Only students who have completed the application are searchable.
• Your roommate(s) must confirm your request

Students who have submitted a completed application by March 17 are eligible to particpate in room selection. Housing expects that all residents will create an inclusive room for students regardless of identity. Students who completed their housing application by March 17 will be emailed an appointment date and time to select your space. Since some communities fill quickly, preferences are not guaranteed.

• Appointments are determined by lottery and group size and may not be the same as others in your roommate group.
• Six-person groups will assign before smaller groups and individuals.
• Viewable spaces are based on your RLC preference, which you select in the housing app.
•  If your preferred community or apartment type fills, you will see other available spaces.
• We cannot guarantee that separate roommate groups will be able to assign into the same apartment or have the same appointment day and/or time. Please keep your options open and communicate openly about alternatives with others who you hope to live with

All Residential Learning Community parameters are lifted so students can move into any available space.

Room Selection

Residental Learning Community parameters are lifted and students can change rooms as often as they want until the end date.  Those who do not room select by Aug. 9 will be assigned a space.

• Room changes are on an individual basis and unlimited until the end date.
• Students who did not complete an application by March 17 can now participate in room selection.
• Continuing students can change rooms in the Housing Portal, based on availability.

• View your Housing fees on Aug. 7
• The last day to cancel housing is Aug. 17
• Reserve your Mustang Move-in Appointment in August
• Make your first payment on Sept. 1
• Mustang Move-In for continuing students Sept. 16
• Start considering winter break plans. Housing is closed and you will not have access to your room for winter break, Dec. 13-Jan. 4, 2026. Info on winter break housing can be found here 

Required students who want to live off campus can request an exemption starting Jan. 9 in the Housing Portal on MyCalPoly. All exemption requests are reviewed by a committee. Decisions are made monthly and communicated via Cal Poly email.

Spaces from this initial list are awarded by lottery, so chances of securing housing aren't based on when you sign up.

The initial interest list will be open for a limited timeframe — five days. You can add your name starting at 9 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 13 through 11:59 p.m., Monday, Feb. 17.

We anticipate a high demand for the remaining spaces that will be available.

Second Interest List opens at 9 a.m.
